SAP & ERP Contractor Retention: When a Permanent Role Is the Right Fit

An experienced SAP or ERP contractor may be an excellent permanent hire. The decision should rest on the individual’s goals and the role you need filled, rather than assumptions about the employment model.
A candidate accepting a salary does not establish how long they will stay. Explore the reasons for the move and make the expectations of both sides clear.
Ask what the person wants to change
Discuss the work they want to own, their interest in your organization, and the responsibilities they are seeking beyond the current project.
- Are they interested in ongoing system or business-process ownership?
- Do the role’s delivery, support, and leadership responsibilities match their goals?
- Have compensation, working arrangements, and development expectations been discussed?
- What would make the opportunity worthwhile over the longer term?
Choose the structure that fits the work
If the requirement is a defined implementation phase, a contract may be appropriate. If the work is ongoing, make the permanent position’s responsibilities and progression clear.
A team may combine permanent application owners with contract specialists for particular workstreams. Where both parties are interested, a clearly agreed contract-to-hire arrangement can provide time to assess the working relationship.
Plan the handover either way
Documentation and knowledge transfer matter whether the person stays permanently or finishes a contract. Agree ownership of decisions and deliverables so the team is less dependent on any one individual.
Fokis Services recruits SAP and ERP professionals for both engagement types. Discuss a permanent search or define a contract requirement.
